  • I went to Erin Mills Mazda last month and wasted an entire Saturday. I was lied to, strung along, and then basically held hostage when they refused to give me the keys to my car back. Stay away. We were hoping to trade in our two vehicles for one Mazda 3. The two vehicles are a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire (would sell privately for $6 000 based on condition and mileage) and a 2007 Volkswagen City Jetta (would sell privately for $10 000 based on condition and mileage). We found a 2013 Mazda 3 that we liked which was listed at $13 888. Before we went home to pick up the second vehicle to be inspected, I was very clear that we were only proceeding with the deal if we were going to get a reasonable percentage of the car's value applied to the Mazda for trade in. The representative, Mike, told us "If we can resell the vehicle for $8 000 we will purchase it for $5 000-6 000". I assumed that since I was able to privately sell the two vehicles for $16 000 and just didn't want to do the work that we would be offered $10 000-12 000. THREE HOURS LATER we were told the trade in value for BOTH vehicles would be $5 300 - less than the value of the cheaper car. They expected we would give them a Jetta as a gift, I guess. Within about 10 minutes that offer went up to $10 000, so they essentially acknowledged that they had been trying to hustle us for $4 700. We no longer wished to do business with them so we asked for our car keys back, which they really had no need to still be keeping from us anyway. They agreed, but we then sat there alone for a solid 8 minutes before I had to tell another employee that I wished to leave and that they were holding my property without my consent (Mike had not bothered to get our keys - he was apparently working on his next sale). It took us less than an hour to find another car dealer who offered us $7 500 for the Jetta alone. The representative at the other dealership laughed and said "Wow, some people are just crooks" when we told him about our experience with Mike.
