A family member was staying at the Monona Hilton and we met him there for breakfast. Even though we live in Madison, we had never been at this hotel, and we thought we were going to be in for a treat. The hotel is next to the Monona Terrace, a landmark in Madison, in a prime spot. It was one of the worst breakfasts I have ever had. First, a quick word on the decor that was very old-fashioned and drab. The breakfast was terrible. The coffee tasted like Sanka; the "hash browns" were tasteless cubes of potatoes; the bacon completely greasy; the eggs - meh. English muffins are meant to be toasted, so that you'll still get the softness of the bread, but with the nooks and crannies toasted to delicious crunchiness. Yeah - it was microwaved. Um - how is that a way to serve English muffins? Do I need to say we will be recommending a different place to meet for breakfast next time?
