  • While in Vegas I had to try Mesa Grill. I'm a huge Food Network fan, and I've always seen Bobby Flay work so much with chipotle peppers, that I had to see what this place was about. We went for lunch on a Monday afternoon and the place wasn't that crowded. We were sat promptly and our server came to ask if we had ever been to the restaurant before. Nope.... That we haven't. He explained the menu items and the favorites everyone orders. There was also a three course special they were offering, but that sounded like too much. Boyfriend and I ordered the Mesa Margarita and it came out in a heart beat. This is def one of the smoothest best margaritas that I've had, but I thought it needed some "kick". Figured it would come out with a chipotle salted rim or something. I mean it IS Bobby Flay. But overall really happy with my drink. As soon as the waiter came back we ordered. Boyfriend got the Salmon and I got the Mesa Burger. It was really tough for me ordering off this menu, because all the menu items are so complex which is why I guess many people love it here. But I'm more of a plain Jane, so the burger seemed fail proof. After ordering we were given a basket of bread with blue corn muffins, raisin bread, and a jalapeno bread. Jalapeno was right up my alley, but the rest weren't hitting the spot. Not a fan of blue corn, not a fan of raisins, so that's really MY fault. Shrugs. After the good components of the bread were gone, and the margarita gave me that nice little buzz everyone needs when they're in Vegas eating lunch, we waited... and waited.. and waited.... A family of 5 set down next to us about 10 minutes after we arrived, and got their food well before us. Actually finished it before ours came out. Another couple ordered after us as well and were gone before our food came out. We spent a good 1.5 hours there, and most of that was waiting on our food. Something like 45 minutes? The server came out a few times letting us know that it would be 'right out'.... Not sure what happened. Maybe someone lost the ticket.. but I think the server was pretty irresponsible for not checking with the back after the 20 minute wait mark. All in all I think this is a great little get away in Vegas. If my pallet was more up to par, I would have enjoyed my food more. Horseradish mayo = ewwwie. My boyfriend's salmon did not have any sides with it, and for $22 I expected more from his plate. My favorite part was my chipotle salted french fries. Not sure if I'll be back for an actual meal, but next time I'll get some chips, salsa and a few margaritas.
