I have lived on the north side of town for over a year and I am glad that I finally made the trek up to Lone Mountain. Having lived on the south side of town I used Exploration Park as my place to get a 360' view of the city. Lone Mountain hike takes that to another level. Follow all the directions and park at the end of Vegas Vista Trail road- the mountain will be towards the east. The first part of the hike was easy. Once you get to the saddle, there is a bench feel free to rest here and there is no shame in turning back. If you want a challenge, head up to the top- the rest of the hike is dusty, dirty, with a steep incline and loose rock. The 360' view at the top is worth a few blisters, sore calves, and a raised heart rate. Go when it's cool since there is no shade on the mountain at all.
