  • I've been meaning to check out Spoon for awhile now after having read all the good reviews on Yelp. The restaurant week menu seemed like a pretty good deal to me, so I went for it, while my husband thought he'd like to pick off the menu instead. First Course: 1. [restaurant week] roasted pork belly: I thought it was kind of strange to start off dinner with a big bowl of noodles. It was really filling, so I don't quite understand why they chose to put this on the menu. While the pork belly delicious, the whole thing tasted like a home made meal I would otherwise be able to make at home. And honestly it doesn't really go with the theme of the restaurant. 2. wild boar pappardelle: cooked al dente and tasted only okay Second Course: 1. [restaurant week] grilled hanger steak- this probably justified my ordering from the restaurant week menu. Not sure if I tasted the foie gras in the reduction, but otherwise the steak was cooked very well and I enjoyed it. 2. spoon burger - good burger, but overcooked, he asked for medium, and it looked pretty well done. the fries were not great, kinda like the ones served at Park Bruges/Pointe Brugge Cafe Desserts: 1. [restaurant week] spoon bar: this is the restaurant's specialty dessert, the classic. it was very rich. The mousse tasted more like a chocolate ice cream, not very light and fluffy but dense. The appearance of it looked great, but my husband who ended up eating the spoon bar only thought it was okay and not very memorable. 2. pecan - the pie was really hard to cut, and I was provided a spoon and a fork to eat this, and was struggling to cut it up. The candied bacon was in long strips and would have been better if it was chopped up so you can taste the bacon with the pie. It was just really awkward eating this dessert, the sweet tea sorbet was a nice touch though. Service was great though. the other thing that bothered me was that the corking fee for a bottle of wine was $20!?!?!?!?! and if it was a bottle the restaurant served, they would charge you for the price of the bottle??? This is just ridiculous. Let's not be pretentious here, we're not in New York City and the food is only mediocre at best. Overall this was a pretty disappointing experience.
