| - It would be impossible for me to write an unbiased review of Glenmore Park... upon reflection, it's actually been a huge and positive part of my youth.
I grew up beside the park, so it, the Weaselhead area, and the reservoir, were readily accessible on foot or by bike... which meant anytime the parents kicked us out to play, we'd have to explore something new. Or else. So many an adventure was born.
As I sit here writing his, a million ways to "review" the park come to mind. But I think I'll just list off things I have done... because on any given day, you can do the same with only a short drive WITHIN THE CITY.
- Cycle around the reservoir
- Hike the trails along the Elbow River and within Weaselhead
- Canoe the reservoir from the Canoe Club (when the water is really high, you can actually canoe down some foot trails in Weaselhead - I've done it).
-- fishing on the reservoir (I caught a pike once... or as they say in Sask, a Jack)
-- cross country ski the trails
-- toboggan a decently thrilling hill with a staircase back to the top
-- build a big drunken bonfire at the bottom of said hill (ahhh..... high school).
-- lots of wide open spaces for baseball, football, soccer, playing catch, kite flying, model rockets, model missiles, model airplanes... ya... did all that as a kid too. Probably not all legal.
-- BBQ pits and picnics
-- sit at the shoreline of a body of water on a beautiful day, and just chill.
Actually, there's many a place along the resevoir and river where siting and chilling is all you need to do to make it right.
