  • Let's break this down: THE HAIR: I moved to Madison about a few years ago from Washington, DC. At first I was afraid to find a new stylist, so I was flying back home for $100+ haircuts, which became super unreasonable really quickly. I tried another salon out here first with TERRIBLE results (seriously...it looked like a mullet). Scissor-shy from that awful cut, I just let my hair grow for a year and a half, and then booked an appointment at RZ with Emily. Before we shampooed, she sat me down in front of a mirror and we talked, IN DEPTH, about exactly what I wanted. I didn't feel rushed or like it was an annoyance; she listened to me and got her hands in my hair feeling the texture and length so that she could recommend something that would suit my face and work with my super-thin hair. I'd never had a longer haircut before, so it was a little intimidating to put all my trust in her and say "go for it," but oh my gosh. It turned out amazing. She taught me how to blow-dry with a small round brush to get more volume, and the cut itself was absolutely perfect. I love that they take notes on your cut so that, when you come back (I've gone back twice more so far and don't plan on stopping) she can refer to exactly what she did last time. Today I was able to sit down and go "I loved what you did in July, can you please cut it to exactly that length?" and she knew just what to do. My cuts are $50, and I would gladly pay twice that for how awesome my hair looks right now. Not kidding. Emily's that good. THE SPA: So far, all I've done here is waxing (various body parts, probably 10 visits overall). I've had different aestheticians each time because with waxing I'm usually looking more to fit my schedule than anything else so I take whoever is available at a convenient time. Each time I got exactly what I asked for, and the waxing was thorough yet gentle and efficient. The waxing rooms have a very calming atmosphere, with soft music and low lighting (the aestheticians run a super-bright lamp over your skin where they're waxing to make sure they don't miss anything). Waxing is always followed by oil and calming lotion, and I have no complaints about the quality of their work. Based on how much I enjoy their spa, I definitely plan to come back for a massage and a facial sometime soon! OVERALL: The studio & spa are spacious and clean; you don't feel like you're running into people left and right. The design is sleek and modern out in the studio/reception area, while the spa definitely has its own feel with a fishtank in the waiting room, "mood lighting," and earthy decor. Everything "flows" really well together. I also love that the shampoo area is comparatively darker, which makes it easy to relax and close your eyes and enjoy the shampoo head massage (especially with the warm towel they use on your neck). The service is friendly and quick, and no one pushes you to buy things you don't want or need. My favorite part is that tip is included...the prices are slightly higher than they are elsewhere, but you probably come out ahead when you figure in the tip you'd pay at other places. I'd gladly pay extra to avoid the stressful mental calculations and awkward cash handoff. I can't recommend this place enough; I use them for pretty much everything I need done beauty-wise.
