| - THE CAR
According to Edmonds.com, Drive Time is about 3-4 thousand dollars above fair market value.
Drive Time does not negotiate. You pay what is marked.
If you finance with them, after the finance charges, APR, etc. you will be paying over twice as much for the car as the list price.
My car was $14.5K. After all was said and done, it was $31.5K. WTF!! How did that happen?
However,, BUYER BEWARE! My new name for Drive Time is "The Lemon Shop." Take any used car to your favorite garage and have them do an inspection. Had I taken the time to do that, I may not have purchased the car I did.
The tires, brakes, shocks, struts, battery and belts all need replacing coming to a total of an additional $2,000 out of pocket, and as time goes on, I'm experiencing even more! Recently a coil spring broke making the car useless to drive. Another $600 out of pocket.
When the alternator needed replacing (a warrantied part, thank god) I took it to Valley Express Auto Repair, where the warranty is honored. That's right, you can't take it to your own mechanic. Valley Express told me that 99% of their business comes from Drive Time. What?!
I began to have second thoughts about Drive Time and how in good conscience they could sell a car that was not road worthy and even dangerous under certain circumstances. So be careful, do your homework and get any car that is a potential purchase checked out.
Drive Time is where used cars go to become your problem, your expense and even your nightmare.
THE FINANCING
If you end up buying a car from DT, the first thing you should do is have your IQ checked, then finance through another company. Their finance procedures are unethical and they will try to squeeze you out of more, even if it means that you're overdrawn and are now paying overdrawn fees to your bank.
How the employees of this company sleep at night, I have no idea. It is a racket and something the attorney general should look into.
