| - A noticeable step down from Santan in Chandler. We assumed it would be the same, but AZSC takes the "aww, as long as the kids just have fun" mantra to an EXTREME. Very little structure or rules, no assertiveness allowed, still doing the "take a knee" thing at age 11, something Santan gives up at about 8 and rightly so - it's childish and panders to the drama that some children leverage to stop the game.
Scores are not kept!!??
Coaches are taught not to "run up the score", meaning if you are a couple points ahead you are expected to stop trying to play your best.
Spectators are NOT kept on opposite side of the field according to which team they are supporting--there was a half-arsed rule on this for a while but no one really enforces it, so the obvious result happens: You have passions running high except they are in conflict and it is very awkward to be right next to the person whose kid it is you may be making a comment about - just ridiculous. Santan enforced this rule religiously and it kept things in order.
The parents for the most part just drop their kids off--Actually diligently showing up and cheering for your child and your team to win is considered odd--
Slide tackles are not even allowed, much less taught (Santan Excel was teaching this at age 9).
The league schedules spring to go into 112 degree days quite often and not only that, schedules games at 1 PM in the afternoon. Complaints to the league go dismissed & unanswered, even when several parents on our team complained.
Any sense of seriousness about the game or winning is not encouraged for the most part. The kids are treated like babies - everything is just like 3-4 years behind Santan Soccer.
This review is not about the coaches (we had a wonderful coach), it is about the league.
I would not recommend this league to anyone unless you are just broke or cannot drive elsewhere. Chandler's options are much, much better - even for the same priced recreational league.
