| - We only checked the Yelp reviews after booking this hotel (if I had read the other reviews before, I probably would have booked somewhere else). Upon arrival we were a bit apprehensive because of what others had said, but I didn't think it was as bad as previous reviews, especially considering the price. This review is rated 3/5 mainly due to the location and price ($56/night on weekends in the winter for one double bed). Definitely the place to stay if you're on a tight budget.
Positives:
Price -- super cheap. You would be very hard-pressed to find another hotel for this price in this area.
Location -- great downtown location. Right around the corner from the Metropolis, China town, the subway stop, rue Sainte Catherine and about a kilometre from the train station.
Customer service -- Both receptionists were very friendly and helpful, even when you stumble back into the hotel at night after being at a bar for a few hours ;)
Free WIFI -- it was a little difficult to get connected, but once you have the connection, it works fine - even on my old beast of a laptop.
Free continental buffet breakfast -- It's a pretty sparse breakfast (cereal, toast, croissants, coffee, tea, juice, some orange slices), but it's free! lol
Negatives:
Parking is extra.
There is definitely a bit of a damp, musty smell to the room.
You have to pay for local calls.
Cable TV was fuzzy (but when you're in Montreal, why would you be watching TV anyway?!)
Super small shower. The smallest shower I've ever seen anywhere. It was very difficult to scrub up without touching the shower curtain or tiles :S When I was done towelling myself off, I noticed a very long black hair on my stomach... I'm a redhead and Joel has short hair... so not sure if it came off the towel or the shower somewhere *barf*
