I have been taking private lessons from Matt for the past 6 months or so. I had been playing on and off, mostly on, for the past 28 years but never really took any formal instruction. Though I feel I know "how to play", I don't really understand "what I am playing" or "why." Hence my desire to actually learn more about the guitar.
Since starting lessons with Matt, I have developed some techniques I did not possess before like alternate picking, and identified areas of improvement in my playing like timing. I was afraid the lessons were going to be all theory but they are not. We learn scales, chords, and also some songs. Matt has a band camp every 1-2 months. It's mostly younger students but still fun and helpful in that it forces me to learn songs that I wouldn't normally play.
I find lessons with Matt challenging yet fun. He seems very flexible in his coaching depending on your experience and goals and is super positive. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking an instructor. The fact he does in-home lessons is also a huge plus for me as well!
