| - Brasserie V is for sure a restaurant you should visit. The Monroe Street neighborhood has always been an eclectic down-to-earth scene, but within the last 5 years its made even better progress at burgeoning into a big city feel. Brasserie V heightens that aspect with a cool vibe and an incredibly relaxed atmosphere.
People come here to sip on delightful Belgian beer (of which they have many) and indulge on Belgian food classics. Mussels, duck sausage, creative burgers and sandwiches, and AH-mazing frites. Their frites are hands down the best French Fries in town, no contest. Crispy, juicy, garnished with Parmesan, and accompanied by savory sauces. DO NOT under any circumstances skip on these frites during your visit.
Since their expansion the wait times have improved and they have two relatively full bars in addition to a window seating area and their normal tables. The staff is polite and and have always responded well to questions. It's a great place for a date night or just a spot for when you want to chill out, as we all need to do these days.
They would have received five stars, but they are a bit pricey ($15-30 a plate generally and $6-10 beers), and on my last visit I had the special (Kansas City Steak with Mushrooms and Truffle Spinach) which I was quite disappointed with. The steak had a lot of fat, was very tough, and they didn't have a Steak Knife. She brought out a second regular knife and when I asked for a Steak Knife they didn't have one for customers. That kind of soured my meal since I had to hacksaw my way through the dish. I've noticed this with specials at other nearby places, so maybe just stick to one of the established plates as its worked in the past for me here.
Relax, Take a load off, and enjoy the V
