This is a very high end jewellery store. You have to go through two sets of tricky doors before you can actually get in the store (which is fair since they have had a lot of armed holdups).
I'm sure the quality of their merchandise is unquestionable, however they have really terrible customer service and a horrible approach.
Recently, we decided to take my husbands Citizen watch to them for cleaning and a new battery, since they boast a qualified watchmaker. I guess the way we were dressed must have alerted them to the fact that we were not going to be buying any expensive items, so they were already cool. Once we showed them the watch, their lips visibly curled and they said that it would be $300.00.
We declined the cleaning. I was tempted to point out to them that they had cleaned the watch once before and it cost around $50.00. We decided to get the battery. Big mistake. They charged $30.00 (that included putting it in).
The $30.00 battery which should have lasted at least a year, croaked after 5 months. Because it was handy, we took it to a local watch and jewellery vendor, located in the deplorable Rockwood Mall. They charged $5.00 and told us to hang on to the bill since it should last for 2 years.
I guess Humbertown Jewellers want to discourage riffraff (like us) from bothering them. A rather foolish policy since you really never know who you are dealing with and what they might say.
I would say unless you are dressed really expensively and have a wad of bills to wave around, don't bother going there, since they won't give you the time of day.
