| - This is the newly renovated and moved former Spa at Markville. The space is large, decor comfortable and welcoming. I received a massage, facial, manicure and pedicure. I really liked the extra perk of having access to a private hot tub and sauna prior to my treatment, however, the treatments were totally disappointing. My manicure and pedicure fell apart in three days, and polish was noticeably all over my cuticles. The massage wasn't uncomfortable, just not very experienced or professional feeling. Kind of like a massage you could get from a friend if you were able to rope a friend into rubbing you down for 45 minutes vigorously.
The facial was passable, but I got a breakout the next day (this could have been anything, though).
Over the course of my treatment I overheard coworkers talking to each other semi-hushed about a workplace turmoil. The specifics weren't clear but it was obvious that several of them were upset and angry about something enough not to hide it in front of clients. I saw two coworkers treat a more junior 'trainee' coworker in a snarky manner, and it was honestly just kind of uncomfortable trying to relax and ignore their interactions with one another.
When I went to pay, I was told that I was only able to tip in cash, otherwise I would not be able to tip my technician. I offered to be charged more on my credit card, and a couple of other options. The receptionist seemed pretty blase about this, as though they made it deliberately hard to tip their technicians for some reason. I ended up having to walk to the convenience store for cashback so I could properly tip the person who took care of me.
Overall, I rated this spa two stars. It is a great environment but the quality of the services and the overwhelmingly negative work vibes ruins it for me. What a sour experience.
