| - Let me start off by saying that I am 8 months into living in Madison; moved from Cali.
I found Texture because of Yelp and decided to give them a try. Upon checking out their prices for a women's haircut, I decided that an associate hair dresser was best for my budget. Now, let me say, I was very hesitant and a little worried...wondering if I could trust an "associate hair dresser." I worried that maybe these people had just gotten out of beauty school or something.
Rachel dispelled all of my fears from the moment she introduced herself. Immediately I could tell that she honestly cared about how I wanted my hair to look. I know what you're thinking, "She cared? Really." But, in all seriousness, the whole salon gives an atmosphere of wanting to give you a great experience.
As a new client, I was asked to arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out a "new client" form. The form asked me how I liked my current hair, what I wanted from my new haircut, what products I used, what current issues my hair is having, etc. Upon first entering the salon, I was offered cool water or piping hot coffee by a friendly and efficient receptionist. She then took my completed form to my stylist, who came right up to me and introduced herself about 2 minutes later. Rachel was NOT the 18 year old, gum chewing beauty school grad I had pictured. She was professional, kind, courteous and pleasently chatty. At the end of my visit I was sort of amazed I paid what I did for what I had received. She is the best stylist I have been to.
Onto the hair part! She talked with me for a good 5-8 minutes about what kind of look I was hoping to achieve. She asked me questions instead of just saying "Uh-huh" like most sylists tend to do. Then she repeated what I said back to me;I could tell that I was well understood. I explained to her that I wanted something right for my face shape, that I liked long hair and bangs...and she went to work.
The salon uses Bumble and Bumble products and this was my first time experiencing them. I wish I could afford these products because my hair felt amazing after just the shampoo and conditioner (Rachel gave me a mini scalp massage!). I was then taken back to the salon chair and she cut some off my length and refreshed my old layers, blending them in with the rest of the hair. She then blow dried it, giving my bangs their snip right afterwards. All the while, she was talking me through each styling technique and made good conversation at the same time.
During all of this I felt not one bit of pain or discomfort (their chairs in the lobby and on the floor are very comfy by the way!). I also didn't leave feeling so itchy like you do most of the time at other places, from the hair pieces that tend to get everywhere. I'm not sure why this time was different, but it was nice not to have hair clippings all over my face!
After one hour, we were finished and I booked my next appointment. I was really impressed with Texture and with Rachel...and I was very nervous going in because you just don't know what to expect! I thought it might be "snooty," being a more high end place...but the people are friendly, the building is extremely clean and professional looking (as are the stylists I might add), and it is so open...yet sort of partitioned off from the guest seating area, which is nice for some privacy. I'm big on this because at other places like Xpert Cuts or Cost Cutters, its such a tiny building that the lobby is almost part of the floor and you feel like everyone is watching you haha.
All in all, a great experience and I really recommend this place. Can't wait to try their other salon services. Enjoy! You will not regret it.
