  • I love trying out local eateries, and am always hopeful that I can give a local place rave reviews. Unfortunately, I can't really rave about Jobot. The first time I went I had a crepe with ricotta cheese, homemade jam, and powdered sugar. The crepe was fantastic! If this review was based solely on that, I'd give it 5 stars. It was perfectly balanced, not too sweet, the crepe itself was neither too thick nor too thin, and the portion was perfect. To drink, I ordered a raspberry Italian creme soda. I've had better. The balance of syrup to soda water was off, and all the syrup managed to do was make it slightly pink. Generally, I expect my Italian sodas to be a little sweet. Not sticky sweet, but sweet enough. This really wasn't sweet at all. So that kind of sucked. The second time I was there, I brought a friend. Instead of going for a crepe, I decided to try a sandwich. I got the Jo-Banh Mi, and my friend got the Torta. Both the pork on my sandwich and on hers was good. The sauces were flavourful, and both had a little bit of a kick. I wish my banh-mi had come on a crustier bread, since it got a wee bit soggy pretty quick. I ended up ditching the bread and just eating the pork with a fork. I ordered another raspberry creme soda, and asked them to make it extra sweet. Yeah, it wasn't. Still just pink soda water. Kind of disappointing. So basically, the food was good. Based on my experiences, I'd recommend the crepes over anything else. However, I knocked off a couple stars for the service and the atmosphere. The gentleman who took my order the first time, was helpful for disinterested. Was more interested in chatting up the girls at the counter. The woman who took my order the second time was pretty checked out. She mentioned she'd worked there for two years, and just seemed bored. There was no communication from the people who brought the food out. But after watching for a little bit, I'm thinking it was just me. Anyone who came in that appeared to be either a) college age, b) a "hot chick", or c) a hipster, everyone was super attentive. I am none of those things. Not only were the employees more attentive to those types of individuals, but I was getting all sorts of side-eyed looks from many of those individuals. Maybe if I had had a beard and a man bun, things would have been different.
