| - I dined at Border Grill for dinner before a Justin Timberlake years and years ago. This was my 1st time back since then, and a large group (7 of us) dined for brunch on Father's Day.
The restaurant offers an awesome brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. It's $35 per person for all you can eat small plates and an additional $8 if you would like bottomless mimosas - which is the way to go....I ordered a bloody mary, which was not very good and came in a very small glass and was $11. :( Anyhow, they didn't offer anything different for Father's Day, which was great.
5 people in our group arrived early and were sat before I (the reservation holder) even got there. That's all fine and dandy, but kind of weird, because the other 5 people didn't know each other, and I wasn't even there yet. I don't feel like they should be seating people before the reservation holder is even present. Whatevs. Also, there appears to be some sort of construction going on, because a large part of the downstairs was curtained off. And there was a VERY foul smell - it started while we were in the walkway outside of the restaurant and smelled like sewer. While it may have nothing to do with the restaurant, it was pretty disgusting.
Our server was very friendly. She started out by saying that, with larger groups, she likes to serve everything family style, and rather than have everyone order, just send out some of the favorites and most popular items on the menu. We all agreed that sounded good. So the food started coming. Wow, it was delicious and seemed endless. Some of the things were really good, some we didn't like so much...but each person at the table had varying tastes, so everything was devoured.
The meal started out with some fresh fruit and emapandas and then other items came out from there. Some of the favorites were: sweet potato pancakes, chilaquiles, breakfast fries, steak and eggs and the bread pudding french toast. Some of the less favorite items were: shrimp and grits (I liked them, but a few people thought they were too spicy), lobster pancakes (I also like these, but most of the diners were expecting something sweet, because they were pancakes, but they were savory), and the hash and eggs.
Here is an important note: there are eggs on EVERYTHING. So if you aren't a fan of eggs or have super high cholesterol or something, maybe this isn't the place for you.....
As I said before, the bottomless mimosas are by far the way to go, even if you plan on having only 1. $8 is a great price, and they had a TON of flavors to choose from. In hindsight, I wish that I would've ordered these. There were orange, peach, watermelon (the tables favorite), pomegrante, etc etc.
There was some confusion when it came to the check, because there was auto-gratuity added, although their policy states for "parties of 8 or more," and there were only 7 of us. Our reservation was originally for 8, but we had 1 no-show. Although our server was very friendly, she was a bit slow, and I do think we would've tipped more had the auto-gratuity not been on the check already. Or if we had been at least told about it beforehand.
This is one of the better brunch deals in town, based off of the creativity and quality of the food, the atmosphere and of course the cost. $35 per is well worth it!
