| - My company uses Marriott Courtyards for the majority of our travel needs around the country. I have had the please to stay in many of them over the years and have been happy with the service and accommodations. This Courtyard though was not up to my expectations and I was disappointed in some of the differences they have compared to other Courtyards.
I was there for just under three weeks. I arrived around 1:30 pm and there was a room available for me. it was a nice room near the ice machine and elevator. The room was clean and the maid service was done almost everyday. The tub had a 'dip' in the center so water never totally emptied out. You had to use your foot to push the water down the drain. Other than that, the room was exactly what you get at every other Courtyard.
But of course, being in Vegas, i am guessing things are done differently than in say... Pittsburg.... or any other Courtyard. My biggest complaint was the breakfast service. Everywhere else, you come down in the morning, get your breakfast from the food area and eat. No hassle and no fuss. But not here. My company included the breakfast as part of my room (mainly because there are no kitchens in these rooms) but they do it different here. There are servers who are there to wait on you. The first morning I came down to get my 'free' breakfast I was greeted by a lady who said to go ahead and get my food and she would bring me coffee and flatware. What?!? The bottom line is, they treat this like a restaurant with servers. At the end of you meal, they present you with a check. If your meal is free, you just tell them what room you are in and sign for it... but of course there is space for a tip. Breakfast is NOT FREE if you are tipping someone for doing very little work. I found it very upsetting that I was expected to tip these servers when in 99.9% of places with free breakfast, you get your own food and don't have to leave a tip. That was the only time in 3 weeks I ate breakfast there.
They do have a shuttle service to the Mandalay Bay hotel that leaves every 30 min. I used it about three times but on that third time, my friends and I were waiting outside for the shuttle... it pulled up... the guy inside asked if we wanted to go the Mandalay... we said yes but he said he was early and would be right back to get us... then drove away. The pick up time came and went and we were running late for dinner so we ended up calling an Uber to get us.
The final thing that was upsetting was the security of the hotel. You would think with key card locks on all the door (which worked on and off for me and locked me out of the pool area once ) they would pay more attention to who was walking around the hotel. You can come in the front door and go right to any elevator or staircase with out being stopped. Hence, every freaking day at around 5 or 6 pm, some sort of flyer would be shoved under my door. Pizza, chinese food, sub shops... every day a different flyer. One day I happen to be near the door when it came flying in... i quickly shoved it back out and they shoved it back in. Really? With signs saying "No Soliciting" around the hotel, you would think they would be stopping this and worried about the safety of their guests.
If I ever have to go back to Vegas, I will be requesting a different place to stay. Maybe its just different in Vegas but it is not the quality I expect with a Marriott.
