| - Wandering down the street a few hours before our show, two friends of mine and I decide to try to get into this place on a Friday night with no reservations. Walking in carefully, my friend nervously goes up to the hostess stand and asks "how stupid is it to try and get a table for three with no reservation?". Smiling, the host said we could either sit outside on the patio (plenty of seats because there was a slight chill in the air) or he could find three seats at the bar for us. We took a chance and chose the table, and were seated promptly.
The service was a little slow to start with, but quickly learned that our server had a zillion other tables and was taking care of the whole patio, which filled quickly with other diners willing to take a chance in chilly air. She was very helpful with suggestions, and ultimately our group ended up with a few apps, some flatbreads and an entree. I'll break them all down by below.
Devils on horseback (on snack menu):
A weird take on pigs in a blanket that involved what I think is spicy mayo and super sweet pulled pork wrapped in bacon. I didn't like it at all, but my friends were fans.
Mac and cheese (on appetizer menu):
Very yummy cheese sauce with this Mac, although I do prefer mine to be baked and not just thrown together in a pot. The chorizo really added to it and the crumbly top was a nice texture addition too!
Bone marrow (on appetizer menu):
Three ginormous bones of garlicky fatty goodness. The fixings were what made this so great. The only thing that was unpleasant was that when it cooled it became not so good. Not enough bread to start with in the first place, and took forever to get more.
The salty pig (Flatbread):
Salty as ever but good as hell. My friend let me try a piece and it definitely lived up to its name.
Short rib Flatbread:
Very delicious and everything I wanted it to be. It was a bit messy to eat, but I didn't care and dove right in.
Wagyu Steak & Pickles:
My friend really enjoyed this and his steak was cooked perfectly. It was served on a long wooden plank, which I think is a little ridiculous, but he liked the kimchi and all the picked veggies that came with it.
The service ended up being pretty great by the end, and the food was good, but I wouldn't say it was the best meal I've ever had. When I'm paying those prices, I expect it to blow me away. I'd go back to the the happy hour snack specials sometime, but get dinner elsewhere.
