| - RUN FAST AND RUN FAR! DONT CALL THESE GUYS IF YOU WANT HONEST AND FRIENDLY SERVICE.
I'll add my 1 star to the plethora of others on Air One Heating and Air Conditioning. My warranty company, Fidelity Home Warranty, also sent them out to repair an AC issue. The first guy came on a Friday, and was friendly and professional. Unfortunately, he couldn't fix the issue because the compressor was iced up. Said the office should have informed me to turn off the AC to let it melt before he came out. He said it was likely an airflow issue and said it would probably be $285 to fix it. Rescheduled for the following Monday. They sent two repair tech's this time, one spoke very broken English and the other didn't communicate at all. First thing they said was to put my dog away. She's a border collie and very friendly, but I said OK, no problem. Then, after looking at the inside (furnace area) and outside (compressor) parts of my system, they said my coils were 60% plugged and needed cleaned, and quoted me a price of $285.00. Then, they changed their story and told me my evaporative coils were also plugged 80 or 90%, can't remember which, and quoted me a price of $485.00. I tried to ask questions about which was which, and they said they needed me to authorize payment right away. Understand, the compressor outside was brand new, only 1.5 weeks old, so I told them I wasn't going to authorize payment without understanding what they were doing. I contacted the warranty company who said maintenance costs weren't part of the warranty, which I knew, but that according to Air One the maintenance needed to be done before they could assess the system further. The repair men also said that the system would need 10 lbs of Freon and that the system would need to also be tested before they could put the Freon in. By the way, they said Freon was $55.00 / lb and that my warranty only covered $10/lb. I called the Air One office to try to get clarification. I was on the phone with them for a few minutes with them indicating the new compressor was plugged and needed cleaned, but that they'd make me a deal if I authorized service right now. When I challenged the lady on the other end further, she got snippy and said they had photos and video. So, I asked for them to send them to me. While this was going on, the repair men closed up my furnace, leaving a massive mess, and said they needed to go if I wasn't going to authorize payment (this is while I was on the phone with their office). When I challenged the girl at the office on the fact that a brand new compressor didn't need coils cleaned, she said that the warranty company had called and my warranty was too new, and she needed to pull her guys out.
Good Side of the story is, on Yelp, I found a company, Legacy Air, with high ratings. You can read my review of them on their page. I hired them to come do a separate assessment. They cleaned my evaporative coils ($120.00), said my compressor coils were brand new, assessed my second AC compressor and said those were also fine (though it is very old) and said the Freon level was also good.
So, Air One would have cost me close to $1500 for Freon I didn't need, cleaning of compressor coils which also weren't needed, and cleaning of evaporative coils on one furnace unit which WAS actually needed. Instead, I had the other company do both my evaporative coils on my two furnace units, and it only cost me $240 for both (that alone would have been apx. $970 according to what I was quoted by Air One).
As a side note, Air One's office did say that the tech was confused about what my warranty covered, and that any Freon would have been covered.
I have complained to my warranty company they probably shouldn't be using this company and I've asked for them to never use them on any future service claims, which I'll hopefully never had to use again.
