While the price is a little steep, I can say that this tour was absolutely worth it. This tour more than exceeded my expectations. Not only did we get a full history of this wonderful place, our tour guide Mollie was able to give us insight to every single part of the design--from floor to ceiling to windows (did you know that Frank Lloyd Wright resisted glass as long as he could in his design?) No matter if you are an architectural expert (my friends) or a complete novice to the world (me), I could definitely say there is something here for everyone.
Mollie was well-versed in not just the history of Taliesin West, but also the philosophy behind the design and the leadership lessons that were passed down from Frank Lloyd Wright to his students. It was not just artistically inspiring, but also personally inspiring. She also made the sights so vivid; a lot of historical tours tell the guests "Imagine this" or "visualize that" but with Mollie's humorous way with words, you really could envision all of it happening including the first days when Frank Lloyd Wright's first students found out how to source the natural stone around the area and learned to invent the very first dry cement. Then to cap it off, we got to see the design students of today working hard in the new facility which shows how enduring Taliesin West and Frank Lloyd Wright's principles are.
Walking around this area was really something special and Mollie made sure we all got all the pictures we wanted without rushing us. At the end, we learned that the price of our ticket could count towards a year membership that would allow you free tours across any of Frank Lloyd Wright's designs across the United States. Definitely would recommend.
