| - Tried to book a rental car for family vacation using American Express membership rewards points, which were supposed to get me $400 in credit. Booked everything online, and when we picked up at McCarron, the clerk and manager couldn't get the credits to apply to the rental after trying for an hour. No biggie, right? I'm a nice guy, my kids are already up at 11 PM, and we've been sitting on a plane for 3 hours. I trust the manager to get it straight, leave him what he needs to book it, take the car and go.
Those of you who travel can frequently can fill in the blanks: (1) no, of course, the credits weren't correctly applied when we dropped off the car, and we didn't have time to go back to the counter again (2) yes, I've spent 2-3 hours on hold with rude Avis customer service reps, who constantly interrupt me and who are now stating because "I booked the rental on Orbitz" (who I've never done business with) and because I didn't follow the instructions shown on the certificate (I did...) they will not honor the certificate and (3) I now get to eat $400 because of someone else's incompetence.
I am done with Avis/Budget, and am about to get on every travel website I can find to rip them a new one. After the way these people have talked to me on the phone, I'll rent a damn mule to get around town if they are the only option I have.
