| - All I can say, in case you don't want to read the whole review, is that there is a very good chance you are going to have a long delay or get your flight cancelled all together if you fly this airline. They are #1 across the board for delayed/cancelled flights, if you look them up compared to other airlines, and after what happened to me, I will never fly Allegiant again, no matter how cheap the flight is, it is absolutely not worth the hassle.
So here is my long story. Booked this flight because it was cheap which I am sure is the only reason anyone would ever choose to fly Allegiant. It was $118 round trip from LV to Stockton, which included the $26 carry on fee. I got there 1.5 hours early for my 2pm Friday afternoon flight, and everything was fine.
We get on the plane, which was pretty full, and find out it was not the plane we were supposed to go on. They gave our plane to the last group to fly out, because they had had a 2 hour delay because their plane was broken. Ok fine, the rows were a little screwed up which meant my exit row, became a "my knees are literally touching the seat in front of me" row (and I am only 5'6) but the flight is about an hour, so I am just thinking whatever.
As we are sitting there, we all notice it is HOT, really really HOT. People are complaining and the flight attendants assure us, it cools down a lot when the plane is in the air. So we start to take-off and the plane stops and the pilot says "well folks, unfortunately we are having an issue with the air for take-off(??? - no clue?) so we need to get aired up from maintenance and it will be about a 20 minute delay.
So we are sitting in a plane that is getting hotter and hotter. People are starting to freak out a little, and the flight attendants tell them, they are sorry but they cannot get them water because we are taking off any minute. 20 minutes go by and then the pilot announces "well folks, we know it is very hot on this plane, so we are going to have you all get off and wait until we get this problem fixed" This is about the time I start thinking we are not getting back on this plane.
We all file out to the boarding area. Some people are yelling and pissed but mostly just resigned. 15 minutes pass and they tell us, they will have a take-off time for us in another 15 minutes....at this point we are about an hour delayed. Another 15 minutes pass and they announce we need to change gates because we are getting another plane.
We change gates, wait another 30 minutes, and they come over the speaker and say that this plane also came in with maintenance issues that will take an hour to fix. Cue more yelling from the pissed people but amazingly enough, most people are again just resigned, like this is totally normal and expected for this airline. An hour passes and then the guy comes over the speaker "I have bad news folks, unfortunately this flight has been cancelled, we have no idea when or if an alternate flight will be available...please call the 800 number for further details"
So, I never got to leave. I also found out that we were the 4th flight cancelled that day because of 4 separate maintenance issues on different planes. After doing some research I found out that Allegiant buys up the planes other airlines retire, so they are flying old, and often broken planes, hence the cheap rates.
They did end up rescheduling my flight for 9:30 am Saturday (my flight was supposed to go out at 2pm Friday) but since I was only flying out Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, it wasn't worth flying out Saturday for one night. I should note, that I had signed up for text alerts for delayed/cancelled flights and the Sunday flight I would have taken home was also delayed over 2 hours per the text they sent out.
So why the 2 stars? Well I did get a refund with very little fuss other than waiting on the phone for a full 38 minutes to talk to someone, and I had heard refunds can be difficult to get, so I was happy with that. Also, everyone was actually very friendly, the desk people, the pilots, and the flight attendants were all very nice. All in all I spent 5 hours at the airport on a Friday afternoon, which sucked immensely but now I know better then to ever try and fly Allegiant again.
