| - White Flower Cake Shoppe is really not worth a visit. Sometimes, I get cravings for lovely little cupcakes and because White Flower is the closest specialty cupcake baker to my home, I have given both the shop in La Place and the kiosk in Beachwood Place mall a number of chances to impress me. Sadly, each time, I am disappointed.
Firstly, the flavors and decorations are extremely standard. There is nothing out of the ordinary, nothing that pushes the envelope on creativity. I have nothing against traditional flavors in and of themselves; I do, however, believe that they have to be (at least close to) perfect to make the shop stand out. But White Flower does not deliver.
Each of the cakes I have tried have been pretty bland. I have noticed that the chocolate cake tends to be the best, but marginally so. Their frostings are overly sweet and too dense, and again, are bland. For example, on a recent visit, it was hard for me to taste the difference between the caramel buttercream and the regular cream cheese frosting! I was so disappointed, since these two flavors really should not taste anything alike! Honestly, the quality of these cupcakes is about equal to the cheap packs you can get at the supermarket.
The one exception I found was the chocolate frosting, which while it is overly sweet, it light and creamy with a good chocolate flavor. If you come here, your best bet is probably a chocolate cake with a chocolate frosting. But this cupcake would only be slightly better than what you could get at the supermarket.
My conclusion: skip this place. If you are craving cupcakes, there are better options around town.
