  • I have never purchased anything at Mendocino, but I decided to visit Mendocino one evening at the Yorkdale location (the store in the same isle as second cup cafe) to buy a dress for New Years Eve (which was coming up in 3 days). After I had tried on the dress, I went over to the cashiers desk to purchase it. I asked the sales associate at the cashiers desk if I could refund the dress, if I didn't like the way it looked at home. The cashier nodded yes, and the sales associate beside her, didn't say anything. I made the huge mistake of not looking at the sales bill after I purchased the dress. I left the store, and took the dress home and decided that it looked different on me at home. So only two days after New Years Eve, I looked at my sales bill, and it indicated that not only does Mendocino not issue refunds (just store credits), but also all merchandise purchased the week of New Years Eve, would not be refunded and is final sale (no store credit). I just about fell of my chair, because I realized the sales associate at Mendocino lied to me about the refund policy. It's one thing to lie about the refund policy and then to say that perhaps there was a miscommunication with regards to the type of refund they issued... but it's another thing to say a refund can be issued, when the sales receipt clearly stated all sales are final. I called the store immediately and spoke to "Hunter" one of the managers of the store, I explained the situation, and she said for me to come in and that there would be no problem issuing a refund based on the circumstances that transpired. She advised me that she would tell "Megan" (the main manager) about everything, and if I came into the store the next evening, she and Megan would be in the store. I came into the store the next night, and advised that I was the customer who called the previous night and spoke to Hunter. The person who greeted me at the store was Megan the other store manager. (Hunter was not even there, as she said she would). I asked Megan if she was aware of my phone call yesterday with regards to my issue of the refund and what had happened. She said she was not aware of it. As I continued to explain everything, she finally admitted that Hunter spoke to her and did tell her what had happened after all (hmmm not sure why she didn't say that immediately). Everything appeared to be really sketchy. I advised her that Hunter said that I could come in today to get my refund, Megan immediately began to say that the store doesn't offer refunds, just store credits. I asked her why Hunter advised that if I came in tonight that I could get a refund issued back on to my credit card? Megan replied that Hunter would have never said that. I couldn't believe my ears!!! I began to think that everyone in this store is a complete liar. I demanded a refund, after I was lied to by the sales associate and Hunter wasn't even there to tell Megan that she said I could get a refund (although I wouldn't be surprised if she lied as well, after all, they were all being really sketchy). This was the worse customer service experience I've had in a long time. Finally after I pressed the issue that I wasn't leaving the store without a refund that was promised to me by Hunter, and because of the egregious customer service I received, Megan finally called someone and issued me the refund. The entire time, she made it sound like she was doing me a favour, by issuing the refund to me and stated that none of her employees would ever lie to me. So she didn't state that I was a liar out right, but it was implied. The proper way to handle a customer that obviously had an issue with being lied to, was to say..."I'm sorry for your bad customer service experience, and I can handle your inquiry and I will look into this further for you." If Megan had done her job properly, I would have not left the store stating that I would never shop at Mendocino again. And that I would be calling head office, with regards to this issue. I am happy she issued the refund, however, if I hadn't pressed the issue, then I would have never gotten a refund. BEWARE of this Mendocino store... the managers and sales associates are NOT ETHICAL people. I was so disappointed, and it's just a warning for others, perhaps it's better to shop at another location or not even take the risk of shopping at this store at all.
