I have a sick child whom needed a prescription for antibiotics started ASAP. I left from the doctor's office to assure they had everything they needed insurance and script wise to prevent any push back so my child could start medication that evening before bed. I was told that I would receive a phone call in about an hour since they have it in stock etc.
5 hours passed and I had got no call. I made a call out, I was first told that my script was not covered by insurance and that the cash price was $18 but that it was ready at the pharmacy. Then the same person retracted their answer and told me that insurance did cover the script, that the $18 was my copay. Either way, I was purchasing this medication, so I sent my spouse to retrieve it. I know my benefits and for a generic prescription, Tier 1, I should pay no more than $6.
An hour passes and my spouse gets back home, saying that the pharmacy needed my insurance card again. I had to leave my crying child that evening to go to the pharmacy for the staff to ask for my insurance card again. The only thing they had to do was make a phone call to clarify ID numbers, this could've been done when my spouse was there but unfortunately it wasn't. I confirmed with the staff that they had all my insurance info in their system when I got there and literally they could not give me a legit reason why this couldn't be done hours in advance.
Needless to say my child didn't get to start medications that evening and I will never return to this location again. There was no sympathy from the staff for their lack of knowledge or initiative to help. If it wasn't for insurance I would be at CVS for all my prescription needs. Walgreens is nothing but unorganized.
