| - After living in Las Vegas for 4+ years, and having enjoyed hiking/running at Mount Charleston a handful of times, I finally made the trip up the mountain for a day on the slopes. For reference, I typically go for a ski trip 1-2 times a year, where we will ski 4 or 5 days each trip on large resorts such as Mammoth, Winter Park, where I ski blues and single black runs. I decided to organize a trip up to Mt Charleston's ski area to get a flavor of what the local ski area is like.
I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. The runs are tiny: you could probably string them all together and that would be a decent mid-length run at a major resort. Their black runs were black as best as I can tell due to the large amount of exposed rocks, which looked bad enough to not go down even in rental skis. The price, at $59 prepaid online, was still on the high side compared to what I paid at Winter Park ($45 a day). Skiing at Mt Charleston did give me an opportunity to break in my new boots. Still, I don't plan to return any time soon.
