When a coworker and I were in Cleveland earlier last week, we wanted a place to grab a cup of coffee and chat before our meeting. Downtown Cleveland, which sports some impressive architecture but appears to be largely under construction, isn't a hot spot of coffee shops. We were hard pressed to find anywhere to go.
A man stopped on the sidewalk and asked if he could help us. "Where does a fella go for a cup of coffee?" I asked. "I don't drink coffee," he replied. "Tea? Something like that?" "People seem to like the Cork & Bean. It's downstairs around the corner a couple of entrances in."
Believe it or not, we found it. Basically, one of the downtown bank buildings seems to have a warren of shops and eateries in its basement, and one of those was a tidy little coffee shop with a tiny counter -- and lots of wine- and coffee-related knick knacks and tools on display. We got a chai and a coffee to go. Prices were quite reasonable, and the countervolk were quite nice.
There was nowhere to sit, though. So we went and sat in the bank lobby between the loan advisors and safety deposit boxes.
