| - Let me be clear, I only went into Stollery's to get my girlfriend to try on their line of Barbour jackets. I wasn't actually going to buy anything. After reading the below reviews, I didn't think this little "in and out" would go by smoothly. I felt a little trepidation, in fact. Yet, I had some confidence that I would be able to handle even the most aggressive salesperson.
Anyway, we walked up to the store, noting the advertised "0-30%" off all Barbour jackets on the windows. Zero percent? Seriously? Turns out not to have been a lie.
You walk in, and are confronted by several salesepeople in ratty, poorly-fitting suits that flit about you like a fly does against a pane of glass. Inside is standard shitty fare, shirts that match ties, low-end brands, appalling mark-ups.
We sidled through the gauntlet of plastic-wrapped shirts to the Barbour store. We picked up a tail, and upon reaching the Barbour coats, were told by the pursuing salesman that their jackets were all 30% off. Fair enough, I politely thanked him, and told him that we were just looking. Now, their sticker prices were all 30% higher than standard retail. That is, a Barbour jacket normally sold for $379 was stickered for $595. That's right, a full 30% mark-up over standard retail. Hmm, I wonder when this sale ends? Probably never. Anyway, Stollery's has an okay selection of coats; they had the ladies' utility jacket, and Beadnell cut in a full range of sizes, and the men's Bedale, and Beaufort as well. They had some of the Steve McQueen line, and a few other coats. Better than any other Canadian store I have ever visited.
Now, that salesman, he never went away. I finally turned to him, and stated clearly, and coldly that we weren't planning on buying anything that day. He then he turned on his heel, and walked away without a further word.
You cannot give these people any business, and live with yourself.
