  • I have used ACE a few times in the past with good success, but this time was very different. On making the service appointment, they immediately wanted to know how old the AC unit was. This should be irrelevant since I am calling to request them to come troubleshoot the unit, not immediately start into a sales pitch on a new unit. Upon arriving, Ryan, proceeded to ask how old the unit was, when it was last serviced, etc., etc. After answering Ryan's long questionnaire, I finally got a chance to explain what the problem with the unit was (that it was struggling to maintain temperature and I had observed only a 14 degree coil differential which indicates a cooling problem). He proceeded to tell me the unit needed to be replaced without even looking at the unit yet or doing any troubleshooting. After prodding him to analyze the unit first he opened up the evaporator to see it was clean as I had described it to him. He put gauges on the condenser and found that the unit was low in refrigerant. At this point he started again into his sales pitch for a new unit. I asked him to check for a leak and if he couldn't find it, I wanted to try to charge the unit with refrigerant to see if it would hold a charge or not. I got strong resistance here which I can understand given the newer EPA regulations, but here's the thing. He was totally fine with charging the system with refrigerant if I would sign on a new system, even if the system was leaking. I asked if he could do this and give me an estimate on a new system so that I could review it first. Refused to do this unless I signed on a $10k system. Even worse, his "estimate" consisted of him showing some numbers that I couldn't read on a webpage on his cellphone. Not even a printed estimate. Seriously? I told him that I would need to review their estimate first and that I would need them to do a Manual J, D and S calculation for me to review as well. He went into a tirade saying that his company doesn't do those for customers (even though this company did it for me a few years prior on my previous house). Told me that noone in town does those and kept challenging why I needed that. When I finally asked him politely to leave, and he saw he wasn't going to make the sale he then offered to perform leak testing on the system, but by this point I had had enough of this high pressure sales person especially since I called asking for a repair service. The entire experience was very frustrating since Ryan was the most condescending and belligerent service/repair professional that I have ever dealt with. I strongly advise against using this company as a result of my experience. Several years ago, this was a great company, but based on my most recent experience and the other negative reviews on Yelp for them, please think twice about using them.
