  • 2 out of 5 stars on Yelp? Really? I don't know what's wrong with everyone who wrote reviews on this place. But man am I glad I didn't read them prior to ordering and pre-paying for cupcakes for my son's birthday. So on 3 days notice, I had to order a Darth Vader birthday cake for my son who had guests with anaphylactic allergies to milk and nuts. I called the usual place we order from, but they were unable to fulfill our requests in the given timeframe. I then searched and called all the bakeries known for making dairy free cakes but nobody was able to fulfill my order. Well, nobody except Lollicakes. I didn't know Lollicakes only made cupcakes, and perhaps if I had thought of doing cupcakes, I would have called other cupcake shops too. But I didn't care at this point. All I wanted was a dairy and nut free cake, or reasonable substitute. Lollicakes met both of these demands. The lady who took my order was very kind and helpful over the phone. She gave me various options of what I could do and helped me decide on my order. I had to prepay for the order, but I didn't mind as I had no intention of backing out at this point. I then made the mistake of looking up reviews. Oh boy, you guys on Yelp really gave me a scare. I began to regret my decision and started worrying about how awful the cupcakes would taste. Well, on the day of the birthday, I went and picked up the cupcakes. I didn't spend a lot of time in the shop as it was early and empty, plus all I had to do was pick up and go. I was in a bit of a rush, but I did notice from opening the door that the shop smelt wonderful! Now, about the cupcakes themselves. THEY WERE GREAT!!! The kids all loved them, even the dairy free version (only ordered 1 dairy free). The adults all loved the cupcakes too. They were extremely moist and very chocolate/vanilla tasting (ordered 5 of each). The frosting (ordered white) is most definitely made of shortening, but DID NOT taste like plastic or chemicals at all. It tasted like pure vanilla! I had an extra cupcake that I put in the freezer later that night. I just finished eating it prior to writing this review, and wow it tasted just as fresh as the day I bought them. The only complaint I had about the cupcakes were the Darth Vader chocolates on top. Chocolate tasted fine, but it didn't look like Darth Vader. Everyone thought it looked like Boba Fett's helmet, except it had a star on it. Not sure who it was supposed to be, but definitely wasn't Darth Vader. Anyway, if you're reading this, I hope you aren't scared away by all the old reviews. I don't know if Lollicakes was really that bad 2-3 years ago, but as of the date of this review, I think this place rocks and won't hesitate ordering from them again.
