After going to this store semi-regularly for a few years, I've gotten to the point where the service I've received has been so consistently rude and apathetic that I usually kick myself after spending money there because I leave feeling put off. The prices are generally higher than competitors (e.g. the place down the street, a bit west) and the selection is average as well. But the main issue is the service. I've left on several occasions asking myself of the cashiers, Would it kill you to give a genuine "hello"? To smile? To say "Have a nice day" or "You're welcome" when I say "Thank you"? Why do I feel like I need to apologize to them for coming and spending money there and paying their wage? I've actually had a cashier finish a text on her smartphone before ringing me in (!). I've worked in retail and customer service, and this is unacceptable.
I'm sad to say that it has been the rare occasion when I've been treated like a valuable customer at this store. Why do I always leave feeling like I've done them a favor. Come down off your pedestal, hipster cashiers, and rise above merely ringing items through like a robot. Maybe it's a management issue - someone who passively allows this attitude to continue - I don't know.
So why have I continued coming semi-regularly at all? It's convenient - I live around the corner and it's too easy. But I fully intend to stop going.
