| - Some people like McAdenville during Christmas time and some people don't. I think the people who don't like it are expecting some high tech light show. I think they also tend to not get out of their vehicles and go through the 1 mile route fairly quickly. What Christmastown actually is is a throwback to another era. During Christmas, the town seems like Bedford Falls with a small credit union, diner, a few churches, and a few other small businesses. There are giant trees that are draped in lights as are almost all of the homes on the route. If you are driving through, it is best to roll down the windows to hear the Christmas music playing. To really enjoy it though, you must get out and walk. You can see the lights and the history of the old town so much better. There are some other displays, nativity scenes, and photo ops. One of the churches also offers free hot chocolate on Friday and Saturday nights. We, however, almost always go on an off-peak night. There will usually not be a wait coming in from Hwy 74 on weeknights. This year we went the first Sunday of Christmas vacation and had to wait about 30 minutes to get in which is not too bad. On that note, the entrance from I-85 takes MUCH longer. If coming from Charlotte, just head west on 74 and you'll be there faster than you think.
