| - "Meh. I've experienced better." I can't really say that I've experienced better and I'm not comparing this place to other Vietnamese or Pho restaurants, but after my latest visit there, that is how I feel about this place - "meh".
The inside was rather small and cramped, but still left enough space to move around and not be seated directly on top of somebody else. The place was clean and decor was enjoyable. No complaints about the atmosphere at all.
When we walked in, all of the tables were full, so I expected us to be stuck waiting awhile to be seated and served. Despite this, we were seated, greeted by our waiter, and served our food very quickly. Our waited was friendly enough, but of the three or four people working there however, he was the only one to greet or even smile at us.
The menu was very typical and had everything that you would expect. We settled for the crispy rolls (2 for $4) which were on the small side, but good enough for the two of us to split as a pre-meal snack and not ruin our appetite. They were tasty, but the sweet chili garlic sauce that accompanied them was terrible. I did not taste any chili or garlic in the sauce, just an odd sour taste that was enough to ruin the bite of the crispy roll. I've never tasted anything quite like it.
We ordered the pho with brisket ($8.95) and a combo rice vermicelli bowl with chicken and pork ($10.95). The vermicelli bowl was pretty good. A nice mix of noodles, cucumbers, lettuce, pickled carrots, and meat. It was nothing over-the-top delicious, but was worth it for the price.
I didn't enjoy the pho much. The noodles were good, but had nothing good to accompany them. The broth was light and bland, the thin slices of beef tasted like it came from a microwaveable freezer meal, and the bean sprouts had to be picked through because many of them had started to get brown and mushy on top.
Overall, everything was pretty hit or miss. Nothing really stood out as being spectacular or makes me want to go back for another visit. There are a handful of other places in the Strip District that I'd rather eat at, so I don't think I'll be going back any time soon.
