  • Oh my goodness the hype for Sweet Jesus in Toronto is crazy! After seeing the instagram photos and the BlogTO posts, my spouse and I added it to our never-ending list of places we want to eat in Toronto. So one cold, rainy, Saturday morning we decided to venture over to Sweet Jesus and beat the rush and have some ice cream for breakfast. Win win! It turns out, they don't serve ice cream until noon. Doh! So we grabbed a burnt marshmallow latte and decided to go for a walk before heading back for ice cream. The latte looked beautiful and the marshmallows instantly transported me back to the Rocky Mountains as a child. Yum! But the coffee was a bit lackluster. Once we got passed the marshmallows there wasn't anything really impressive about the latte. But we were determined to get our ice cream and cross this place off our list. So we returned right at noon, beating the rush and line that started to go out the door behind us. (On a cold, rainy Saturday morning they still have lines!? Wild!!) I ordered the birthday cake because... Well who doesn't love birthday cake?! And my spouse had been eyeing the Krusty the Cone for quite sometime. Both cones came out beautifully and completely instagrammable. Mine with a lit birthday candle, my spouse's topped with cotton candy. Our initial first bites left us feeling like this is the best ice cream ever. My spouse's ice cream had this yummy cotton candy syrup that was really tasty. And mine was dunked in cake. Cake!! But once we got through the toppings, the ice cream was completely flavourless and rather disappointing. There was no point eating it once the toppings were gone. I think this could be a really great spot, if the ice cream was at least creamy. I understand wanting to avoid being too sweet with the toppings added. But a creamy flavour with a lighter texture would have gone a long way. The other option is to offer smaller servings so the topping to ice cream ratio is better. Overall, definitely go and order something ridiculous and snap a photo to make all your friends and family jealous on social media. Then eat all the toppings and feel ok to throw out the rest. -Ashley Marie
