Our last dinner during my recent Vegas trip. We went on a Monday night. Super easy to get same day reservations on OpenTable.
Drinks:
*Margarita donostiarra: San Sebastian style margarita with arbol chile infused blanco tequila, mezcal, bay leaf syrup, lime ($16)
*Sangria de vino tinto: red wine sangria ($12 glass)
The margarita was really good. I liked the kick from the chili. The sangria was a little too light for me. I wanted it to be stronger. Tasted almost like juice.
Food:
*Chistorra envuelta en patata frita: slightly spicy chorizo wrapped in crispy potato ($11)
*Ostras 'gin & tonic': five pacific oysters with lemon, gin and tonic ($18)
*Paella valenciana 'rafael vidal': a true classic of chicken, rabbit and green beans ($25)
*Croquetas de pollo: traditional chicken fritters ($12)
*Carne asada con escabeche: grilled hanger steak with escabeche ($22)
*Gambas al ajillo: the very, very famous tapa of shrimp sauteed with garlic ($16)
I wasn't super impressed with Jaleo. The paellas available the day we went were the two we didn't really want to eat. Kind of disappointing. Plus the paella was super salty. The chicken fritters were good. Nice and creamy on the inside. But having it served in a shoe kind of grossed me out. I know they're new, but it felt dirty. The hanger steak was good. Nice and tender. But it wasn't really carne asada. And the shrimp was full of flavor. I loved the sauce! Nice and garlicky.
I wanted more from Jaleo. I'm not saying our dinner was bad, but I wanted something more satisfying. Plus, I was really looking forward to trying their paella. Being able to choose from only rabbit and chicken or vegetarian was very disappointing.
Some good dishes, but most left something to be desired.
