I was hopeful to the point I accepted a few not-so-positive mishaps throughout my experience until I'd had enough. I figured this was the perfect opportunity since I could walk to this office without crossing the street:/ big mistake in judgement on my part.
1. The lady who set my appt seemed just a little to fake in her approach. Which is usually a big thing that triggers my intuition. I didn't listen to my first thought. So I set the appt.
2. The dentist's fingers smelled like cigarette smoke. Still didn't listen...
3. He came back with the panoramic views that showed I had areas where I needed to replace some implants. It sounded promising because they had a "new machine that makes implants right there in the office, with no need to wait weeks." Sounds good for those who are swayed by emotional tactics. I opted to not accept his offer...maybe it was due to the few thousand dollars it would require just for the convenience.
4. The hygienist offered an alternative for my "receding gum pockets of 4+" and offered a "new laser method for gum cleaning." I figured it wouldn't hurt so I agreed to the charge of $250 per quadrant. I got the estimate back and it was $1,125, ok, I had some room for that since my pockets were apparently so deep despite the fact my previous dentist documented pockets of 1&2, 6 months prior. Still didn't listen...
5. The day came for my futuristic lazer cleaning. She started with the quick scaling. The hygienist said she'd be back. I sat in the chair mid treatment for an actual 35 minutes ... she came back smelling like cigarette smoke. I guess I could ah e just stopped right there. But I still didn't listen.
6. She finished with the lazer and I noticed she was rushing through the end and didn't clean the last quadrant. I got the bill up front and it was $1636 because i had a scaling procedure added on what I wasn't told that would be added...I was told it would be included. They posed it as "if you don't do scaling then you can do lazer" not added to the bill on top of the lazer. By that point I was so pissed at myself for not listening to my gut from the beginning so I felt masochistic at that point, I felt I deserved the punishment and I payed the bill.
7. I got my EOB from my dental insurance and they had paid the dentist office $878 dollars for the procedure so I figured they owed me the money. I called and they said that money was in accounted for when I signed the estimate before the procedure. I left so mad at myself because I'm in school, I didn't want to add more stress to myself to argue the fact that I was bamboozled for a very expensive cleaning.
8. I found another dentist and opted to pay for a follow up that was required by the lazer to make sure it was healing well. The new place said they see dentists doing this often and charge patients for this new technology. They also said from the prior records that I did not have deep pockets and never needed that lazer treatment.
Please be advised they're running a dog and pony show here and are sales men to pay for their technology that they need to pay off.
Now, when I pass by their office, I often see the same dentist and other hygienists smoking quite often outside.
