  • Generally, speaking, McKinley is great--albeit somewhat hit or miss with some of the staff. I have been going since 2009. During that time, I have had terrific experiences with Dr. David Smith. He's compassionate, thorough, and professional. Straight up. The other day I went in after a long absence and was paired with a nurse practitioner, Ms. Rushing. She was also incredibly engaging, considerate, thorough, and professional. In particular, she kept asking if I had any questions at the end of a check-up, so that was nice. So solid all around with the doctors. There was one time a few years ago I had another female practitioner who was rather cold, but that was a few years ago so.... again, hit of miss. The front staff can be especially hit or miss. I try to stay sympathetic, particularly given that many of them probably have to deal with students (a few of whom are especially snotty with their sense of entitlement) all day. Case in point, I remember a few years back sitting in the waiting room and a young white female undergrad kept demanding she be served: "I'm from Miami. My parents have incredible coverage. Did you hear what I said? Miami, it's a very big city. I can't believe you aren't seeing me right now." I think she had an appointment but didn't want to wait. This literally was what she said verbatim. Embarrassing. Maybe not the norm but certainly not unheard of. So some of the front desk have been lovely. Some not as much. Same goes for the staff "under" the nursing staff who take your vitals and bring you to the checkup room. Some are as sweet as angels and will chat you up and make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. A few are gruff and about as warm as wilted paper. So hit or miss. Prescriptions are always super affordable and the pharmacy knocks them out pretty fast, so that's great. The lab work is fine as well. The blood drawers aren't the friendliest people in the world but they're cordial and get the job done. Not sure about all these horror stories. Every time I've gone (about 10 times now probably) I barely felt a thing. They were pros through and through. Free flu shots are a bonus. So not much else bad to say. The ones complaining, feel sorry for them--if it's legitimate. Otherwise, it's possible there are some entitlement issues (a la Miss Miami above) going on here.
