  • I bought a Kinetico 4040 (softener) and K5 (RO/treatment) from Kinetico Quality Water in November 2011. Overall, the experience has been positive and the equipment rock solid. The initial sales process was informative, the salesperson was a Vegas resident and did all the requisite demos and tests to show you that the water was hard here (we already knew that, our appliances at our previous rental all had calcification artifacts). Unfortunately, at the end, he included a "you're only going to get this deal if you sign up right now". I pushed back and got a day to think about it - I hate these kind of "hard sales" tactics and it almost cost them the sale. I had already pretty much decided on Kinetico, so he didn't have to use this tactic, but it annoyed me greatly. The only other thing I would suggest is that if you can find your own financing, do so; the Utah-based bank they use had a 14% APR, even though I have excellent credit (fortunately, I was in a position to pay it off almost right away). These two items cost them the "fifth star" Now, for the good parts. The installation went in without a hitch - the installers were polite and professional, and were in and out in under two hours. They explained the workings of the gear and it has "just worked" since. So far, I have only needed to throw salt in it every few months. Yesterday, we finally had swap out the R/O filters. I went to their office, gave them my address, and they looked me up and set me up with what I needed. The three filters I swapped (orange - taste/odor, purple - carbon/sentiment, silver - organic contaminants), ran $135. Swapping out the filters was straightforward. You are going to spend more on this system than others, but I think it's worth it. There is no computer to mess around with, which is nice when you travel. No A/C power is consumed, and there is very little maintenance (just salt and R/O filters so far). The system is very efficient, my water bill has not gone up by much at all. The water pressure and water availability from the softener and R/O system are excellent,. A year-and-a-half into this purchase, I feel good with it.
