  • Nobody in Phoenix...or Arizona, for that matter....or the United States, for that matter, can offer the outstanding deals that good ol' Mickey has for us craft beer fans, week-in and week out. He's just untouchable in terms of value. He will occasionally have 1.99 or even 0.99 craft bombers....2.99 special six packs....5.99 special 12 packs....at one time or another, he has run just about every conceivable and unbelievable deal you could hope for. But hey, value isnt everything (although it ALMOST is for me!), and even if Kings was just a bottle shop with great value, that wouldn't merit FIVE STARS. Value is important, but what makes Kings a can't miss experience is actually a blend of six factors: - VALUE, with a goshdanged capital V - GENERAL SELECTION (40 and often 40+ beers on tap for your growlers, ranging from the basic lowbrow 6$ ale fill to the incredible special release that can run $50+ or more due to its rarity) - SPECIAL SELECTION (that haaaard to find beer? He might already have it. That ultra-special seasonal (like certain Goose Island releases)? He'll probably get some of that, too. And while his selection may not match Tops numerical variety, I'd say he surpasses Tops in terms of the actual number of high-quality and desirable choices) - PERSONAL SERVICE (Mickey knows his beer, and based on what you have liked or loved in the past, he will have outstanding recommendations on the beers you should try). You can tell he loves his shop, and its ever-pleasant appearance and cleanliness are a reflection of his passion for what he does. - LOCATION (okay, it SUCKS that one year ago he moved from his previous location just two blocks from my home, but I have to admit that Central/Thomas is easily accessible for pretty much everyone in the valley. My pain is everyone else's gain!) -RELEVANT and UP-TO-DATE SOCIAL MEDIA: You'll never miss a great sale or special, just keep tabs on Mickey and Kings via Facebook, as he updates it constantly. Put it all together, and you've got more than just a two minute wham-bam-thank-you-man beer stop like you get at all of the other places. You'll actually have a relaxing, engaging, and often illuminating craft beer experience each and every time you go see Mickey! One rather bad thing --- I cannot help but mention that Mickey is a true-blue NY Giants fan. Poor f%^ker. Oh well, nobody's perfect, I guess.
