  • My family and I have been training at this school for over a year now. We love everything about this place. Our journey began when our son expressed interest in martial arts. With this school being so close to the home, we went in to see if it was a good school. Indeed it is, and we haven't looked back. Victory Martial Arts - Summerlin is a part of the American Taekwondo Association (ATA) offering traditional Songahm Taekwondo lessons as well as Leadership training, a Legacy Program (Certified Instructor Training), Cardio Kickboxing, and the "Karate For Kids" program (as well as several others). The instructors and staff are amazing: totally professional and accountable. They embody the very life skills that they teach and do so in a manner that kids and adults can relate to. There's nothing better than seeing people actually do the things they're teaching others to do. They've been a real encouragement to my wife and I as we train, and a quality reinforcement for us as we raise our son to be a strong and confident young man. The environment is one of encouragement and high expectations where the instructors create the positive conditions that motivate all the students (adults and kids) to want to do well and make their instructors and fellow students proud, rather than using fear or intimidation. Related, self defense for the kids is tailored and taught with their age, size and physical ability taken into full account. Situational awareness and anti-bullying are at the heart of what our little ones are learning. While it's not just for families, there is a clear family emphasis and focus at Victory Summerlin. We love what this school's done to add depth and context to the other facets of our son's life. Rank advancement in Victory certainly includes the demonstration of technical martial arts abilities (e.g. forms and board breaks), but also the real demonstration of a set of life skills (Honesty, Respect, Self Esteem, Discipline, Communication, and Belief) both inside and outside of the martial arts studio. For kids to advance in rank, their parents and teachers have the opportunity to affirm they're demonstrating these skills at home and school and not just in the studio. It's great to see the kids encourage one another. They're always checking on and encouraging each other to achieve these goals as they move toward testing for their next belt. It's an amazing thing to see kids competing with each other to do the right thing! Parents are also encouraged to stay and watch their child's class and become an integral part of encouraging their kids as they try new things and achieve them! Related, the parents in this school have become an extension of our family. Some of our dearest friends are the parents of other kids at Victory Summerlin. There are even Parents Nights Out once a month, when our kids go to the studio for three hours and the parents get to enjoy some adult time. A variety of training times are offered throughout the week, allowing most adults and kids a convenient time to make classes without too much upset to the family schedule. I've emphasized kids, but please don't miss out that the training is the real deal for adults too, whether you're single or married. Show up for class and I promise you'll leave having learned something new and having pushed yourself a little farther than where you were before. Regardless of your current fitness level or experience, there's something for you at Victory Summerlin. We're there all the time because it's just that good and we have that much fun.
