| - This place has gone down a steep hill, and I don't think there is any hope of brining it back. Malibu Nails used to be a WONDERFUL place! I moved from Elizabeth Square to Dilworth and it wasn't convenient to get here. Yesterday, however, I found myself missing it so ventured over. I arrived around noon on a Wednesday - was not greeted with a smile, but after some time the older lady sitting on the couch barely looked up long enough from her iPhone YouTube programming to grunt at me. I said I would like a Shellac manicure - she nodded me toward the wall of polish and said "pick one".
The selection of polish leaves a lot to be desired -even the dumpy places have a better color selection! Then looking at the shellac was a disaster. First, very few OPI colors, mostly the Gelish brand that is cheap and chips off by the end of the first week. There were no color wheels or examples, just the color through the little window on the bottle in very poor lighting! I found myself taking the polish to a window to actually see what it was I was looking at.
I selected a color and the process began...Oh why did I stay??? 35 mins to trim cuticles......I just got a manicure 7 days ago, not 7 years ago. Should have been pretty routine....then a different girl comes to actually apply the polish because Girl 1 was taking so long. (A woman that came after me, also had shellac applied was getting up and leaving before mine even was applied) Girl 2 has to finish the trimming because Girl 1 did such a poor job. Girl 2 works quickly and applied the color and left while my fingers were still in the light. I remove my hands only to find the polish had been so far away from the cuticle, it looks like I got it done a week ago! When I inquire what happened she said "Oh this color moves quite a bit one you put it on. Do you want me to put a third coat on?" Are you kidding me? We are going on 1 hour 20 mins WITHOUT having to take the polish off before application. I say thank you, and get out of there asap! Its a shame because moving back to Elizabeth in a few months, I was looking forward to getting back there on a regular basis. This WILL NOT be happening!
AVOID, AVOID AVOID!
