| - We stayed at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel for 4 nights. Came for the Notre Dame/Pittsburgh game. The hotel is historic and beautiful and well-maintained.
Our room was a corner room, # 723, enormous, and had 2 walls of windows from which we could see several bridges and a beautiful view of the river, PNC stadium which was just across Roberto Clemente Bridge and also Heinz Field where University of Pittsburgh and the Steelers play football. The bed was a king and very comfortable, and we had a sofa, 2 chairs, a desk, and large TV, a safe, and empty fridge to keep our water. It was an amazing room. Bathroom was large and bright with a big picture window. Toiletries were Aveda and very nice.
All of the staff were extremely sweet and helpful. Everyone we met in Pittsburgh was nice. The hotel offers a weekend buffet that looked great, but we did not eat it. We had one meal at the hotel, and it was very good, and had 2 desserts for a midnight snack which were wonderful - especially the vanilla ice cream.
The hotel's location is perfect for walking up to the Strip (Pamela's for breakfast), Heinz Museum, historic churches, and to the Market Square in the other direction (went to the Original Oyster House for fun - it has been a site in many movies), theater, and Station Square which is across the other river and has 2 inclines which we unfortunately did not ride. We did enjoy a great buffet on Sunday at a beautiful former train station in Station Square called the Grand Concourse. Check out the PPG complex of buildings - just amazing! Looks like a scene from the Emerald City (minus the green) in Oz.
