| - I've got to admit that Wanda's has decent pies and good coffee. That's the only reason I'm giving these guys 2 stars.
I used to be a fan of Wanda's. Enough so that I purchased a $15 Wagjag coupon for them. For those of you who don't know how these social coupon sites work, let me be clear: I paid real money for this coupon. The idea being that I could then cash in the coupon for actual pie. Except it didn't quite work out that way.
It's difficult for me to make it out to Kensington on a weekday (the only time the coupon was valid). Nevertheless, I was determine to eat delicious pie. So a little before the coupon expired, I arranged to meet a friend at Wanda's and treat him. When I got there, I presented the coupon on my smartphone -- and was told that I get nothing without an actual printout.
This seems pretty trivial. But keep in mind that: (a) it was an effort for me to get there, (b) I had already PAID for what I was supposed to receive, and (c) I have successfully presented ALL other coupons I've purchased by using my phone. The reason being, of course, that the coupon has a unique code that the staff can easily take down, printout or no.
What's worse is the explanation I was given by the staff: the owner (Wanda?) only accepted printouts, because otherwise she couldn't be sure that the staff wasn't stealing. SERIOUSLY? This baffles the mind.
Naturally, the coupon has since expired, and I got nothing for my money. I know Yelp reviews aren't the appropriate forum to vent a personal vendetta, but to me the whole thing speaks to some pretty disgusting management practices. I don't know about you, but I'm not interested in patronizing a place that treats its staff like criminals and its customers with disdain. The pie isn't good enough to put up with this garbage.
