Of all of the places I visited while in Cleveland, Phoenix had more character than all of them (probably more than all of them combined). I loved the old-timey decor with beautiful lamps, overhead lights, furniture, and vibe. The coffee was above average and the staff was very nice. The pastries were tasty. However, I do have to convey a complaint: it really turns me off when businesses (particularly coffee shops) have the swipe machines for cards that ask how much of a tip you'd like to give. Let's get real: I don't consider myself cheap- in fact, I always tip a barista my change on a coffee. But when you only have options of $1 or more for a tip on a $1.60 cup of coffee, it kind of turns me off. I typically end up tipping the $1, but more so out of obligation. Please don't obligate and then marginalize your customers for over 60% tip on a drink (I know- the counter response is to simply not tip- but I don't want to do that). I'm sorry- just had to convey an objective complaint to a business. Overall, though, I actually really liked this place and probably would have given it 5 stars.
