| - After being unsatisfied with typical grocery store offerings, Silverstein's has become my household's exclusive provider of bread.
We visit about once a week, and by the time we get home, we've gouged large holes in the loaf where bread once used to be.
You can ask for the bread to be sliced or not, unless it's too fresh, then they won't slice it for you. If you don't know the name of the bread, go point at it, and next time, you can ask for it by name.
Given the freshness, quantity and quality, the price is pretty decent. Though, I guess there are no fancy breads, like focaccia.
Oh, how to get in? The orange door that says, "no entry after 6pm." Walk up and down the half-stairs, and to your left where a big doorway (with no doors) separates the cooling racks from the workshop area. Stand there with confidence and the baker on cash duty will serve you before too long.
Tip: Visit in the early afternoon for white-rye (1pm), and late afternoon (3pm) for whole grain.
