| - I have used Precision for over 15 years for all of my garage door needs, so when it came time to replace my garage door I didn't even check Yelp like I usually do. I sure wish I had.
I called Precision and a very professional man came out and quoted $2600 for door replacement and installation. I thought this was in the ballpark - only now am I learning that I was overcharged and likely by quite a bit. Anyway, he helped set up the homelink system on my new car, and said the installation of the new door would take place in about 3 weeks.
Earlier this week I received a call to set the appointment for door installation. I agreed to 1:30 in the afternoon, with the understanding I would not be home before that time so could not do it any earlier. At 12:40 I received a call that the guy was at my house. Oh well. He waited until I arrived at 1:30.
I had earlier received an email indicating who would be arriving at my home, with photos so I could learn more about him. Except my guy's photo wasn't in the lineup. Not a big deal, but not sure why they bother giving this nod to customer service when the photos weren't going to be up to date. I was also assured the guy would be in a Precision uniform with a clearly marked truck. These things didn't happen either, but the guy did have a garage door so the installation began.
I have to say the guy who did my install was one of the least communicative people I have ever met. I don't expect the install guys to be as articulate as the sales people, but I definitely had the impression customer interaction was not his favorite part of the job. But the installation was professionally done, with one exception that I found after the installer had left.
The control pad installed inside the garage was crooked, and a hole in the wall was left showing. I think based on the configuration of the prior control panel this could be corrected by moving the panel down slightly. I called 15 minutes after the installer had left to see if he could stop back by to take a look at it.
I talked with Darryl, who indicated it was out of the question for the installer to return to my house. He said it was a simple fix that I should be able to do. Really? After I just paid them $2600 they can't be bothered to look at this one thing for a long term customer? He also indicated the painters should be able to fix it. That didn't even make sense.
Darryl promised to check into what could be done and call me back today. No phone call. I must say I'm really not surprised given his attitude when I called the first time. It was so obvious he was rolling his eyes and had me labeled as a problem customer.
It was after talking with Darryl I signed onto Yelp to leave a review. Much to my surprise I found that I had selected the only 2 star garage door installer in town! Wow.
A few lessons here: always check yelp, and always check prices, even before dealing with a company familiar to you. Companies change over time. Don't be fooled by the nice sales pitch - they will act totally differently once they have your money.
