In need of a change of scenery, I did a general search for the Yonge Street area and The Abbot came up as the first match, so we decided to check it out for some drinks. There was plenty of street parking available in front and down the closest side street.
It wasn't too busy inside, but I visited on a weeknight early in the week which probably has a lot to do with it. The interior was neat and cozy. The beer selection was above average with several local beers to choose from as well. I stuck with something familiar and didn't try anything new. We stayed longer than expected and eventually ordered the Artichoke Dip appetizer fairly late in the evening. It came out very quickly considering the time of night that we placed the order, and was very tasty.
The service was good. It was comfortable inside despite being seated near the entrance on a chilly winter night. Overall it was a good alternative with no disappointments. I would return again another time, and most likely to try the fish and chips because someone else ordered them and it made me very hungry and envious!
