I've been holding off on reviewing this cake shop because I wanted to sample a few items before giving a review. I've been following baker Siu on instagram for a while now and was really excited that he finally managed to materialize his dreams of opening his bake shop.
I've tried his matcha fraisier, zen cake, mont blanc, and a few macarons. None of them really stood out to me as outstanding, despite the steeper price tag. I will admit that the macarons are uber adorable, which is the reason why I bought them in the first place (macarons aren't really my thing). The best flavor I tried is the vietnamese coffee one (totoro) which is strong in flavor and rounded out by a subtle creamy sweetness.
I bought the matcha fraisier for a Christmas dinner I hosted and my family was not impressed by the cake. The strawberries were very bland in flavor (probably because it's not in season) and didn't really complement the bitterness of the matcha. The spongecake layer was also dry which is probably why the mousse layer didn't adhere to it very well. My parents suggested I stick to Roselle, Ruelo, or Francesca's again for future dinner parties since their cakes are cheaper/around the same price and tastier.
I also bought a slice of the 3:15 (HK milk tea mousse cake) for my friend and he told me it was nothing special. While I never tried it myself, his taste is very similar to mine so I'm going to take his word for it to save myself a few dollars.
If you do want to give Daango a whirl, be sure to check in to get a 5% discount. It's not a significant discount, but at least it's better than nothing!
