I can't claim to be any type of expert on Scandinavian or Polish cuisine. And while I will admit to loving me some poutine, I have yet to order it from here. The reason for that is primarily because the rest of the manu is so danged delicious and Canada is just not that far away.
The Shoemaker's Box... oh dear. It's roasted pork loin on a pillow of mashed potatoes with chopped bacon, mushrooms, and leeks on top. It comes with a side of tomato-basil and housemade pickles. I'm not a pickles person but the pickles!
The cabbage rolls... super tender. There's that bit of sourness from the red sauce that offsets the savoriness of the pork and the onions. Delicate and great texture. Pick your sides for these from the list.
But the one thing that absolutely make visits to Beaver Choice is the apple tart. There's a seasonal German dessert called a fladen. It's kind of like a fruit pie but kind of not. What makes a fladen amazing is a super soft and only slightly sweet crust that is ridiculously amazing. The apple tarts here are like personal serving apple fladens, except single serving is a slight misnomer because they're huge. Still, add the scoop of ice cream because ice cream. I would come to Beaver Choice for the apple tart alone.
The service I've received here every time has been spectacular. Food does take time to come up but considering the quality, that's not a huge problem. At some point, I will try the poutine here. I will order the poutine after I've tried everything else on the menu and I will still order an apple tart with ice cream for dessert.
